Over the almost 4 years before I began this diet journey I had gone through countless medicated fertility treatment cycles and 5 rounds of IVF. The amount of weight that all of those hormones put onto my body was disgusting. In the middle of those IVF (in vitro) cycles I had one pregnancy that was riddled with complications that included polyhydramnios (high amniotic fluid). This caused me to have diastasis recti and some lovely stretch marks. What that basically means if that my abdominal muscles are separated and it would require surgery to really fix them, this is common in twin pregnancies and occurred in mine due to the high fluid. Exercise alone does nothing for me, unfortunately. Even very healthy, low calorie, diets with exercise doesn’t work for me. I am insulin resistant and my body stores fat abnormally. What worked for me was a NO CARB diet with TONS of protein. The goal was 30g of protein 3 times a day. Let me tell you, that is a lot of protein. I did not even eat whole grains. I was limited on even being able to eat fruit as that is made up of carbs. This was a diet that my doctor worked on with me since I was found to have the metabolic disorder. It was not easy but the results were SO worth it. I plan to get back on the wagon and lose 20 more now that the holidays are over!
